Part of Castle Crags State Park is adjacent to and included within When camping, visiting at the park, therefore: Camp only in designated areas. Campfires, barbecues, and gas stoves are allowed in designated areas, only. Smoking is allowed only designated campgrounds. No hunting or firearms allowed! Hiking, Mountain Biking and Horseback Riding in the Castle Crags Wilderness Area: Castle Crags wilderness Area includes 28 miles of trails; all accessible through nine trailheads: The Castle Dome Trail, Indian Springs Trail, Root Creek Trail and Bob's Hat Trail are all accessible from within Castle Crags State Park. The Little Castle Lake and Mt Bradley Trails are accessed from Castle Lake. The Gray Rock Trail is accessed by an un-maintained road that branches from South Fork Road, south fork of the Sacramento River. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) runs through the wilderness, and can be accessed from the Soapstone trailhead and Gumboot Saddle trailhead, both accessible from South Fork Road. The PCT can also be accessed from Dog Trail off Whalen Road, from the Soda Creek exit of I -5 and through Castle Crags State Park.
