The Middle Fork of the Smith River:

Beautiful greens and blues intermix in the water of the Smith River to create incomparable clear water. The geologic
conditions that created the river gorges sculpted with a mighty hand leaving colors and shapes that blend perfectly to create the
character and, nomenclature, of one of the most beautiful rivers around.

That's not all the Smith River has to recommend itself, for the watershed of the Smith River and Mill Creek, a major tributary,
are almost encompassed entirely in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park making Jedediah Smith a park beyond compare, especially
when you consider the coast at Crescent City, and especially when you take in the coastline around Brookings, Oregon
a little further north on the Pacific Coast Scenic Hwy, otherwise known as Hwy 101.

Travel to Gathering Light from Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park or via the Umpqua Scenic Byway. The Umpqua Scenic Byway: follow the Umpqua River from Reedsport, to Sutherlin on I - 5. From there head south 10 miles to Roseburg, Oregon and access the Umpqua Scenic Byway: Directions, Map and Scenery: hiking trails, waterfalls, mountains.
