Shoalwater Bay at Eagle Ridge:

Wildlife Viewing in wetlands on Klamath Lake in Klamath County, Oregon.

Although Eagle Ridge is included as one of the sites near Crater Lake, it's not close as are all the others. It's approximately 95 miles
south and west of Crater Lake, but certainly within the area and well woth visiting no matter the degree of your interest in birding.

Eagle Ridge is a Klamath County Park in the valley east of Klamath Falls, Oregon between Doak Mountain and the
Cascade Mountains. The wetland is part of Klamath Lake, and Brad and I agree it is one of the most beautiful, offering magnificent
vistas of wildlife, mountains and lake. The park offers a boat launch, unimproved campsites and vault toilets in 3 different places on the route. The dirt road is maintained until the boat launch. After that it deteriorates even though there is a small picnic area when the road comes to an end at the end of the point. This picnic area offers one picnic table and a stairway leading up the hill to restrooms (vault toilets) and a much
better parking area. This parking area is at the end of a better maintained road. So if you thought you want to explore at the
end of the point, you might want to take the better road, park in the parking area, and walk down the stairway.

Klamath Basin is the heart of the Pacific Flyway. It sustains over 430 species of resident and migratory birds, including bald eagles,
sandhill cranes and pelicans. The southern half of Klamath Lake, which is where these photographs were taken,
supports Bald Eagles year round.
